The case of the founder of the Legionaries of Christ responsible for various crimes, Marcial Maciel Degollado, has no impact on the process of beatification of John Paul II, Vatican revealed confidential documents. The Congregation for the Causes of Saints, in charge of the ‘road to the altar “of Karol Wojtyla, dismissed a possible involvement of the pontiff in immoral acts committed by the Mexican priest, including child sexual abuse.
In a letter dated November 17, 2007 and 147/05-14478 protocol number, the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, William Joseph Levada, responded to a request for information from the Saints section on case of Maciel and John Paul II.
“In this regard, the only response that this congregation is able to offer is this: there are some letters and petitions addressed to John Paul II on behalf of the complainants, ” wrote Levada.
“But not any personal involvement of God’s servant in the proceedings against Father Marcial Maciel,” he added in the internal letter.
The letter in question was published in the book “Attack on Ratzinger: Accusations and scandals, prophecies and plots against Benedict XVI” by Italian journalists and Paolo Andrea Tornielli Rodari.
As revealed Tornielli volume ‘sub secreto “included not only the case of the founder of the Legionaries of Christ, but all aspects of’ sensitive ‘the pontificate of John Paul II, those who should be thoroughly reviewed and clarified.
